This Month News, recognitions, and board action from the Marietta City Schools Board of Education.
Dear Families,
We're off to a strong start, and I’m proud to say we're right on track.
Now, it’s time to take it up a notch.
With the first-day jitters behind us, it's time to stick to those routines we promised ourselves over the summer. During Tuesday night's Board meeting, we saw what's possible when you stick to your goals.
We had the opportunity to celebrate some incredible people across our district. Their leadership, hard work, and commitment to our students are a great reminder of what makes Marietta so special.
And because even a well-running engine needs a pit stop, Fall Break is just around the corner. All schools will be closed September 21–25.
Enjoy the break, recharge, and come back ready. We have plenty of road ahead, and I’m excited about where we’re going together.
With gratitude,
Grant
The Marietta City Schools Board of Education recognized Wyatt Lumsden, a student at the Emily Lembeck Early Learning Center, as the September Student of the Month.
Wyatt is a kind and caring student who always gives his best. His teachers describe him as polite, helpful, and empathetic, often noticing when a classmate needs help and stepping in to offer comfort or find a teacher.
In just four weeks, Wyatt has already shown tremendous growth. His caring heart and willingness to help others make his classroom a better place each day.
The Board of Education congratulates Wyatt for being a Marietta City Schools Student of the Month for September.
The Marietta City Schools Board of Education recognized Melody Hess, a paraprofessional at the Emily Lembeck Early Learning Center, as the September Employee of the Month.
Melody is known for her dedication, patience, and genuine care for ELC students and staff. This year, she has taken on an additional leadership role by mentoring three new general education assistants, helping them become part of the ELC team.
Always willing to step in where she is needed, Melody helps create a welcoming environment where Marietta’s youngest learners feel safe, supported, and ready to grow. Her talents also extend to the stage—she played “Granny” in last year’s first MCS staff production of Into the Woods.
The Board of Education congratulates Melody for being a Marietta City Schools Employee of the Month for September.
The Marietta City Schools Board of Education recognized Katie Minahan, a senior at Marietta High School, for being named a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist.
Katie is the only Marietta High School student to earn the distinction this year, placing her among the top one percent of high school seniors nationwide based on PSAT performance. A straight-A student in the full IB program, Katie has pursued her interests in theatre, engineering, and working with children.
This summer, she was one of just 14 Georgia students selected for a month-long Shakespeare residency, one of only two programs of its kind in the country. She also serves as co-president of the MHS Theatre program and served as Student Body Treasurer for three years, helping lead an effort that raised more than $10,000 for Blood Cancer United.
Katie was also selected for the Governor’s Honors Program last year to study theatre and has taught STEM outreach lessons to elementary students.
The Board of Education congratulates Katie on this prestigious recognition and her outstanding academic, leadership, and service accomplishments.
